The Toy Collector
(A drama about Christmas)

Director's Notes:
I wrote this drama around a number of Christmas songs that the Children's Director had purchased. So, you can insert your own songs or ignore them all together.

This drama is much more of a Christmas program that involves your children's ministry and takes place in a toy shoppe. All the characters in the program are toys and teaches us that God (The Toy Collector) loves us desperately.

I've attached a window graphic that you can put on the screen behind the actors. Right-click HERE and choose "Save Target As..."

Wendy:   John? John? Hurry up! They’ll be here soon!

(In walks John from off stage. He’s dressed like a cowboy…)

John:   I’m coming…I’m coming! I had to find Cindy-lu…

Wendy:   Who was (together) only 2!

John:   Where should I put her?

Wendy:   How about over by the Max and Grinch ornaments!

John:   You got it. (Looks at the Grinch) Now, don’t go taking the Hoo-pudding, or Hoo-razzles, or Roast beast or…

Wendy:    John! Come on! We’ve only got a few minutes before the other toys get here. Help me out. You know, we really shouldn’t wait till Christmas eve every year.

John:  Okay, okay. Wow, the place looks really great! I mean, this has got to be our best window display yet! I can’t wait for the Toy Collector to see it!

Wendy:   He loves it every year and you know it. Oh, here they come. Cue the toy band!

John:  Hit it boys!

(Kids enter: Start the CD (DECK THE HALLS). All Kids come up on the stage wearing their costumes)

Wendy:    Wow, that was great!

John:   Yeah, welcome to The Master’s Toy Store!

Justin:    Who’s the Master?

John:   Who’s the Master? WHO’s the Master? Why, He owns this store!

Lucas: We knew that.

John:  He makes them smarter every year.

Josh:   Who makes us?

Wendy:   The Master of course. He is the One who makes each and every toy.

John:   Yep. He’s knew exactly how to make each and every part

Katie:  You mean me?

Andrew:    And me?

Mallory:    And how about me?

Wendy:     All of you!

Lucas: Maybe we should thank Him!

Wendy:      That’s a great idea. Let’s sing loud enough for Him to hear! John?

John:   I’m way ahead of you. Hit it boys!

(Start CD: GLORY TO GOD. All kids sing)

John:  That sounded really great!

Josh:   Do you think He heard?

Wendy:    Absolutely! In fact, I bet even the Toy Collector heard.

Katie:      Toy Collector? Who’s he?

John:      Wait a minute! Are you guys telling me that you’ve never heard of the Toy Collector before?

ALL kids:    (shake their head no)

John:  Can you believe that Wendy?

Wendy:     Looks like we’ve got our work cut out for us this year. Go ahead and tell them, John.

John:   Well, the Toy Collector is the one who collects toys!

Wendy:    (sarcastically) Brilliant, John.

John:   Well, He does! Maybe you should tell them the whole story.

Wendy:     Maybe I should. Come on kids, gather round and I’ll read you a story about the Toy Collector.

(kids gather round)

Wendy:   Long ago…

John:     2000 years ago!

Wendy:    (glares at him) in a little village…

John:     Called Bethlehem!

Wendy:    Who’s telling this story?

John:  Uh, you are.

Wendy:     Thank you. Now, like I was saying. Long ago in a little place called Bethlehem, the Toy Collector: Jesus was born. Let’s read it from the Bible…

(She reads a passage from the Bible as the words also come up on the screen)

Andrew:    Wow, that was pretty neat!

Josh:   I wish I could give Jesus a present.

Lucas:     Yeah, me too!

John:    Well, the best present you could give Him is you.

Wendy:    And the best present He could give you was Him. John?

John:    Hit it boys!

(Start CD: THE BEST PRESENT OF ALL. All kids sing)

Wendy:    That was great!

John:    What? The Toy Collector is here?

Wendy:     Did you hear that kids?

ALL kids:    Yeah! Yea!

Wendy:     Okay, come on now, let’s go. Time to go!

(Kids are ushered off the stage and are seated around the stage while Josh stays back)

John:     (returns) Josh, what are you still doing here?

Josh:      Well, I heard what you said about the Toy Collector…

Wendy:      Yes?

Josh:   And, well, are you sure he wants me? I mean, I’ve been kinda bad and I have a broken part or two.

John:   It doesn’t matter Josh. He wants you just the way you are.

Josh:    Broken parts and all?

Wendy:   Broken parts and all.

Josh:    Wow. He really is neat isn’t He?

John:    Yep. He is.

Wendy:    Now, let’s go. He’s waiting for you.

Josh:    Couldn’t we sing just one more song about Him?

John:    Yeah. I think we could do that. Dave?

(Dave (a member of our band) enters with Guitar. Sits down on a stool and begins playing Silent Night)

(Josh sings through the first verse once and then Wendy asks everyone to stand and the words come up on the screen and we all join in on the second verse)

Wendy and John:     Merry Christmas, everyone!

All Kids:   Merry Christmas
